Well, we’ve spent all these years taking care of our family. Our kids are grown, they have kids of their own, and even some of their kids have kids! Some of us still suffer from “empty nest syndrome”, so we wind up getting a puppy! Then some of us are just content to enjoy the solitude!
Now, our kids worry about taking care of us! They are at the same place we were 10 or 15 years ago. But if we let ourselves depend too much on them, we find ourselves second guessing every decision we try to make. I have known women that quit driving because someone else always drove them around. After a while, they became afraid to drive, so they let their driver’s license expire and sat around the house until someone offered to drive them. That is NOT GOOD ladies! That is one more step toward losing our independence!
Of course, some of us suffer from health problems that hinder our being able to drive or do some other things. I had a bad heart attack and a stroke. Lost my speech, but thankfully I gained it back. I also have a neurological problem that has caused me to no longer be able to sing, which was a big part of my life. But I have learned that whatever your health problems may be, you are still here and should be thankful for that because life is a gift! We may not get around as well as we did, we may not remember things that we should. But life comes full circle, so let’s just enjoy the rest of the journey!
