Senior living on a fixed income, where do you go?

Have you ever thought about which states offer the most reasonable rent and living expense?   I have been doing lots of research lately and here is what I found.  Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas seem to offer the most reasonable housing.

I live in Texas, and it use to be among the states where you could live very reasonably.  Recently, the “oil boom” has hit again and the cost of rent has sky rocketed in our area.  It’s the same old story….supply and demand, and people seeing a chance make a big profit on their properties.  A lot of people are moving into our city, but a lot of people (including us seniors) are being pushed out due to the rising costs.  I am afraid that we will be one of them.

We sold our home several years ago due to health reasons and decided to rent.  We were tired of the maintenance and expense that owning a home requires.  Now, we are considering where to go.  When we were young, moving was no big deal!  But now it is hard and very stressful at this stage of life.  When you know that is probably the last move you will make, you want to be happy with your choice.

Have any of you got the same problem?  I would love to hear your comments on the subject!

That’s why I gave up moving back to San Angelo–and even Texas. Property taxes are sky-high in TX and very reasonable here in AR. I refuse to pay the outrageous hotel room rates in SA, too. I had a fantastic hotel for a week in Vicksburg–great location, big comfy room with every amenity you could ask for, and paid less than I’d have paid for two nights in SA.

    BRB. Relocating to Kansas.
